Let us never say that people who are developmentally delayed cannot have faith in Christ simply because their minds are unable to plumb the depths of truth or meditate theologically or think spiritually on issues of grace.
Faith in Christ can be as simple as a child’s trust and love. God has a special place in His heart for the “least” in the world. And we, who believe in Christ, are to bring Christ’s love to them, but we have to care, and that takes some mental as well as emotional work.

Tom Kingery spent 36 years in ministry service in northern Illinois. The United Methodist pastor retired in 2017 to attend to his late wife, Carol. He has two children and two grandchildren.
